Hi. My name’s Frankie!

I love Judo! Judo has helped shape me into the person I am today. My success and failures in judo have taught me the true value of discipline and perseverance. With these skills I am able to continually progress in other areas of my life. This is why I love teaching judo so much.
I am a 4th Dan (4th degree) black belt. I have 15+ years of coaching experience. And 20+ years of administration experience at Club, State and National levels.
I have competed at the highest level being the Number 1 ranked player in Australia from 2000 to 2005 (in my weight division). I represented and had success for Australia at countless international tournaments. Some of my best results include:
- Australian Champion 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004
- Oceania Championships: numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze medals
- 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games: Placed 7th.
I hope that you will get as much out of your Judo career as I have whether it is through competition, officiating (refereeing, judging, etc), administration or simply the social, physical and psychological aspects of practising Judo.
A highly competitive sport!
All that said, Judo is a very popular and highly competitive sport all around the world. On the world stage, Judo is incredibly dynamic, intense and exciting to watch! It is a truly global martial art in that the skills and rules are the same everywhere you go unlike some other forms of martial arts.
Judo is considered a safe sport. In judo we learn to fall, throw and grapple safely. Every skill and technique is broken down into simple steps which anyone can master.

My opponent is my teacher. My ego is my enemy.

It’s not about size!
One of the best things about judo is that unlike some other sports, judo is not size or shape dependent. You do not have to be tall or short, heavy or light. What you will learn is how to apply techniques to different situations based on how you can move. It’s wonderful!
Serrano Judo Academy is registered with Judo Victoria Incorporated and hence the Judo Federation of Australia and the International Judo Federation.
